Nisarg Mela – World Wild Life Day

‘Nisargamela’ is arranged to spread awareness about wildlife. Students learn various things about nature, environment through various games, competitions etc. This programme is being conducted for last 10 years. Efforts are being made to conduct such NisargMelas in places outside Thane.

MahaSuryakumbha was a partnering activity of PDM with Keshav Shrushti. It is a ‘Solar Cooking’ activity to educate & create awareness about “Solar Energy”. Maha-suryakumbh also received recognition from Guinness World Records, Limca Book of Records, Asia Book and India Book of records. Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal spreads awareness about solar energy by using this solar cooker as a teaching aid. This year Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal reached around 20000 students & nearby 85 schools in Thane district.

Bio Resource Research Centre (BRC)

Bio Resource Research Centre (BRC)- Mamnoli- 2011 In Mamnoli, a centre for research in conservation of seeds, trees and medicinal plants is established. To conserve rural environment and forests is the motto of this centre. Various employment options for farmers like organic farming, vermi composting, nursery management, gardening etc. are suggested through workshops. BRC also sells plants like Vala, Pachouli, medicinal plants and indigenous species for afforestation projects. This centre is in Mamnoli village on Kalyan Murbad Road in Thane Dist.

Nisarga- Environmental Research Project- 2006 Environmental Science is multidisciplinary. ‘Nisarga’ is an initiative to encourage and motivate young students to take up research projects in Nature and Environment. Technical and financial assistance along with expert guidance is provided.Image 4

PDM also has archive of hundreds of documentary films and short films in sixteen categories like wildlife, birds, biodiversity of lakes, rivers, wetlands and oceans, forest, nature, environment, water, land and agriculture, sustainable development, energy, solid waste management, sanitation, climate change, eco-friendly festivals, pollution (air, water, sound, e-waste, radiation-health, food pollution), animation films, people and poverty. These films are mainly in Hindi, Marathi and English.

Learning

workshop conducted by Enviro- Vigil under green career courses on last Sunday, 20th of March, 2016. This workshop facilitated by Mr. Bharat Godambe of PDM. He explained the concept of Kandi-Kolsa and gave information about Sarai Cooker (model developed by ARTI). He displayed the working model of SARAI COOKER to the participants. He demonstrated the process of making Charcoal from Bio-degradable waste. He shown how to assemble Sarai Cooker and gave cooking instructions on it. Simultaneously he placed rice, daal and mix sprouted grams in the Sarai Cooker for 45 minutes. Shilpa Mangal Prakash Shirvadkar showed short film on Kandi Kolasa and how to used sarai cooker at home. After 45 minutes food was completely cooked and it was ready to eat. After film session all participants were tasted the delicious food in that cooker.
All 14 participants were enjoyed this innovative workshop.

Green Living

Awareness created about water, availability of water, use & abuse of water & purity of water with competition & exhibitions & programs, Last six Years this day is celebrated with local self government & school children.

Photography Exhibition

A 3-day photography exhibition on the rich biodiversity of Thane Creek is being organised by Paryavaran Dakshata Manch – an NGO in collaboration with Thane Municipal Corporation. The exhibition will start on March 18 at Kala Bhavan,Kapurbawdi and it will be open for public from 10am to 8pm.

The organisers will also screen two short films on Thane Creek during the exhibition. “We are trying our best to inform people about the Clean Creek Movement and the destruction that is taking place on the Wetlands. There will be around 300 photographs of birds, insects, butterflies, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and mangroves also for the exhibition and other activities related to the creek. We mainly want to focus on school students and college students who will be made aware and will make others aware then,” said Avinash Bhagat, Programme coordinator, Paryavaran Dakshata Manch.

Thane Municipal Corporation’s Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal will inaugurate the exhibition on March 18 at Kala Bhavan.
